On Tuesday June 2, 2014 Upton Fire/EMS Chief Goodale and Assistant Chief Marchand accepted a cold water challenge.
In an effort to raise money for various causes there has been a social media blitz nationwide of fire fighter/EMS personnel calling each other out to take a cold water challenge in 24 hours or donate $100 to the cause… or both. This chilly challenge has recently spread over to the Upton Police Department too.
Chief Goodale and Assistant Chief Marchand decided to take the plunge under the fire hose.
Who did they decided to call out.. YOU!
Fire/EMS Chief Goodale and Assistant Chief Marchand challenge everybody in town who hasn’t made a donation already to the Jaw of Life fundraiser to join them in raising the money to purchase new “Jaws of Life.”
To date they have raised about $15,000 but they need to raise about $30,000.
Checks can be made out to FIRE EMS JAWS OF LIFE FUND and should be mailed to the Fire – EMS Headquarters at 20 Church Street Upton.
The Fire/EMS Association is also holding a can/bottle drive.
Below is a transcription of the video in case you couldn’t hear what was said.
Chief Goodale “Mike apparently we have been called out as part of the cold water challenge. I don’t’ know about you but you know I guess the difference between firefighter and fire chief is we didn’t wait until it was 45 degrees and the water temperature was 45. We waited for it to be 80 and we’ll find out what temperature the water is. So anyway, we’ve been called for the cold water challenge and instead of calling out individuals we decided we wanted to do something to call out the people in our community to help us raise money for the jaws of life fund. So far we’ve raised just about $15,000 for the jaws of life and our goal is $30,000 we’re half way there and we need people’s help. So we are going to take part of the cold water challenge as way to get people to come out and continue to help us for the jaws of life. What do you think Mike?”
Assistant Chief Marchand “It’s a good idea Chief. I just want everyone to know we thought smarter too, we brought this water back from Maryland so it should be a little bit better and warmer so we’ll see.
Chief Goodale ” We’re going to find out. So anyway we’re going to take the cold water challenge and we challenge everybody in town who hasn’t made a donation already to join us and raise the money for the jaws of life. Thanks you very much.”
Assistant Chief Marchand “Thanks.”
