Memorial School 4th Graders Give Back To The Community

As part of a community service project, fourth grade students at Memorial School collected coins from family and friends.  This week, the students presented a check for $1,185.00 to Amy Griswold, Director of the Food Pantry at United Parish.   The staff at the food pantry works with students in the VISTA program at Nipmuc.   Students in that program learn life skills by creating a budget, shopping for the food, and sorting the food for the food pantry.  Dave Antonelli, teacher for the VISTA program, noted that VISTA students have been assisting the food pantry for the past five year, and with help from Memorial’s fourth grade students, they have raised over $8,000.00.   The Food Pantry serves several dozen local families in the community.
