BVT Students Display Their Talents at SkillsUSA

bvtWith excitement and enthusiasm, Blackstone Valley Tech students displayed their talents and skill at the SkillsUSA Massachusetts State Leadership and Skills Conference hosted by Blackstone Valley Tech on April 29, 2017. Competing against almost 2,000 students in 101 competitions, an impressive 44 students brought home 24 gold, 14 silver, and 6 bronze medals.

The event featured the state’s top career technical education students competing in skill-based challenges designed and judged by panels of industry and trade professionals. Often considered the Olympics of vocational technical education, the event kicked off with a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring industry leaders, educational administrators, and state legislators who emboldened students to build a bright future for themselves and society.

“We encourage you to relentlessly ask well thought out questions while becoming the most effective listeners of your era,” welcomed Dr. Michael Fitzpatrick, Superintendent-Director of Blackstone Valley Tech. “Turn learning into action. Spark energy and imagination. Value challenges and generate momentum. On behalf of my colleagues, I challenge you to inspire and influence.”

The gold medalists from state championship competitions around the country will now advance to the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference Championships in Louisville, Kentucky on June 17-23, 2017.

The following students, organized by hometown, earned gold, silver, and bronze medals at the SkillsUSA Massachusetts State Leadership and Skills Conference. Also listed are students elected to serve on the SkillsUSA Massachusetts State Executive Council and as national voting delegates.
