The James Rokas Leadership Training Award recognizes individual students for both achievement and potential in their student leadership experiences. As part of the award Elizabeth receives a training scholarship to the MASC Summer Leadership Conference at Stonehill College.
“I am very proud of Elizabeth’s accomplishment,” Nipmuc High School Principal John Clements wrote in an email. “Her receipt of this award speaks to her ability and promise as a student leader. She has been a wonderful, active member of Nipmuc’s student council. She is certainly deserving of the award, and I know she will represent Nipmuc proudly at the leadership conference this summer.”
On Wednesday, March 6, 2013 delegates from Nipmuc’s Student Council traveled to Hyannis to attend the Annual Conference for the Massachusetts Association of Student Councils held at the Hyannis Resort and Conference Center. Delegates attending were: Jessie Alibozek (president), Cassidy Cannavo (vice president), Krystina San Soucie (secretary), Emily Davidshofer (treasurer), Maddie Laplante Dube (public relations), Elizabeth Nigro (liaison), Brett Alibozek, Maddie Davidshofer, EliTamagni, Carly Thibodeau, and Sarah Tong.
The Nipmuc delegates ran a workshop on communications “which went very well” according to Elizabeth. The delegates also attended workshops and sessions, this year the keynotes speakers were Johan Khalilian and Monte and Michael Selby. When asked to describe her experience, Elizabeth said “people often say trying to describe MASC is like trying to explain what water tastes like, it’s a place where people from all of the state come together, bond, become a family. I love it so much, I can’t wait to attend the MASC events this summer”
Due to the weather the Nipmuc delegates left the conference early and missed the award ceremony. When asked if she was disappointed to miss the award ceremony Elizabeth said “I was really happy when I got the call and was told I won the award, it made my day!”
