During one of the recent winter storms 21 mail boxes on Grove and Prospect Street were damaged while sanding operations were underway as a result of the truck’s wing plows not being attached properly. The mailboxes suffered a direct hit.
The town of Upton’s standard policy is to reimburse $20 for the mailbox and $20 for the stand if a mailbox is damaged during plowing. Typically damage to a mailbox is from the snow being pushed up against the mailbox. This incident was different as the damage was not a result of plowing but instead the result of an improperly attached wing plow which directly hit the mailboxes.
The town of Upton has decided to reimburse the residents whose mailboxes were damaged/destroyed at 100% of the replacement cost.
