State Sen. Moore wants to know where Upton stands on the governor’s tax proposals – take the survey

IMG_3911[1]State Sen. Michael Moore (D) is interested in hearing from his constituents in the Second Worcester District on the Governor’s tax proposals. On his website you may take his survey and let him know how you feel about each propsed tax change.

Some of the tax changes proposed by Gov. Patrick include:

  • Increase income tax from 5.25 percent to 6.25 percent
  • Cut the state sales tax from 6.25% to 4.5%
  • The current personal exemption of $4,400 for single filers would increase to $8,800, and the current $8,800 personal exemption for married filers would increase to $17,600.
  • Raise the excise tax on cigerettes to $3.51 a pack from $2.51 a pack
  • Eliminate the exemption on candy and soda
  • Would tie the gas tax to inflation
  • Eliminate 40 personal income tax breaks
  • Would tax computer software customization
  • Eliminates the FAS 109 corporate tax break
  • Increase in MBTA fares, Mass Pike tolls and Registry of Motor Vehicle fees.
  • Expand the bottle bill to include non carbonated drinks –  5 cent tax on water and sport drinks
