Three talented young ladies from Upton competed at the 47th Worcester Open, sponsored by the Skating Club of Worcester, on Saturday April 6. The competition is held annually and welcomes skaters of all levels, from Beginners at USFS Basic 2 through Adult Gold. Its events include Freeskate, Compulsory Moves, Solo Dance, Showcase, and Competitive Spins.
Elise Descheneaux, who is a member of the Bay Path Blazing Blades Synchronized Skating Team, skated to a music from Mary Poppins, and won the silver medal for Pre-Preliminary Compulsory Moves. Samantha Katz skated to music from The Addams Family, and won the bronze medal for Pre-Preliminary Freeskate, Well-Balanced. Natalie Plourde skated to Zelda Medley by Lindsey Stirling, and won the silver medal for Preliminary Freeskate, Competitive Test Track, as well as the pewter medal for Preliminary Compulsory Moves.
Samantha is a member of the Skating Club of Boston, while Elise and Natalie are both members of the North Star Figure Skating Club, in Westborough. All three attend the Miscoe Hill Middle School, in Mendon.
