Upton Town Election is April 30

voteThe Mendon Upton Regional School District Calendar has/had the wrong date for the town election on the school website.  Please mark your calendars accordingly.

On Tuesday April 30, registered voters will be able to vote in the primary elections for the open Massachusetts Senate position; a seat formerly filled by Secretary of State John Kerry.

For the Democratic Party, Stephen Lynch of Boston is running against Edward Markey of Malden. Both candidates are currently serving as U.S. Congressman.

For the Republican Party there are three candidates; Gabriel Gomez of Cohasset,  Daniel Winslow of Norfolk and Michael Sullivan of Abington. Gomez is a former Naval Special Warfare Lieutenant Commander, Winslow is a current State Representative and former District Court Judge and Sullivan is a former United States Attorney.

Residents of Upton will also vote for local positions. There are no contested seats in the Upton Town Election but there are two seats open for a write-in candidate. The seats open are for one Mendon Upton School Committee seat and the other for Recreation Commission. Grace Maneri and Elizabeth Fournier are running as write-in candidates for the open Mendon Upton School Committee position. A follow up article on how to properly vote for a write-in candidate and links to both Grace and Elizabeth’s letters to the uptondaily.com will be available over the weekend.

For the April 30 State Primary, Upton’s polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Nipmuc Regional High School.
