Preservation in Progress: Restoration of the Upton CCC Camp Administration Building Tuesday May 14

forestThe Administration Building at Upton is one of only two surviving buildings from the 1935 Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp based in Upton. The remnants of the buildings and parade ground are one of America’s last surviving reminders of CCC camp life for one of America’s most significant and enduring social programs.

DCR is in the process of stabilizing the foundation and restoring the CCC-era framing of the building. The project presents a unique preservation challenge: how to provide for the long term stabilization of a building that was built to be dismantled in a few years, while retaining the historic appearance of a temporary building. Program Manager Kevin Allen will talk about the plan, update the progress, and if possible take a look inside to get a better sense of the scope of the project.

The Program will meet at the Administration Building and take place rain or shine and is appropriate for adults and older children – access to the building will depend on where work is occurring. Portable toilets are located on site. Please RSVP at HCP.Requests@state.ma.us or call 617-626-1361.
