Upton Youth Rock Bands and Adult Jazz Quintet to Perform at Grafton Historical Day Celebration

Bob Nicoll

Upton resident Bob Nicoll is a well-known and loved music teacher whose method involves teaching piano, keyboard, drums, guitar and bass through music the kids love;  no practicing scales or anything boring. The scales and the boring stuff are incorporated in the songs the kids learn to play on their instruments.

Bob is excited to announce he will have two of his youth rock bands and solos/duets perform at the Grafton Historical Day Celebration this Saturday, May 18 at the Unitarian Church, 3 Grafton Common.

The music program will begin at 2 p.m. with individual performers and duets building up to the two rock bands. The program will end with DOUBLE TAKE, a new jazz combo group based in the Grafton area who play a mix of old and newly-composed jazz tunes.

Like the band’s repertoire, the members of DOUBLE TAKE are also a mix of young and not-so-young. The band features Bob Nicoll on piano, Barry Hall on bass, Paul Tomashefsky on trumpet, Jim Scarsdale and Avery Hall on sax, Rachel Kaufman on flute and Howard Kaufman on drums. A mix of teachers, students, seasoned professionals and emerging stars fuse their creative talents to create energetic, toe-tapping swing and jazz music for your listening pleasure.

In addition to the concert, the Grafton Historical Day is filled with lots of fun events for ages 0 to 100. The festivities begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and go throughout the day.

Below is a video from one of Bob Nicoll’s youth bands from a year ago featuring 5th and 6th graders and below the video is a list of the events going on throughout the day.
