On April 29 Upton residents who use town water/waste-water received their semiannual bills. This bill does not reflect the new rate increases. The new rates will be in effect at your next meter reading which will be sometime in June.
It’s a substantial increase; 9 percent increase in water rates and 29% increase in wastewater rates. The Town anticipates the average water only user would see approximately an $80 increase in a yearly billing period, the average water and waste-water user a $216 increase in a yearly billing period.
Moving forward, the Town will be billing quarterly in an effort to make payments easier for customers. The first quarterly bill will be mailed after the June meter reading. The new quarterly schedule for readings will be March, June, September and December.
Customers receiving the 41C or Veteran’s exemptions on their real estate taxes are eligible for discounts on the Customer Service Charge and should call 508-529-3067 to provide appropriate documentation.
**The town defined the average water user as a customer who was billed $103.15 semiannually and an average water/waste-water user as a customer who was billed $497.26 semiannually**
