On Monday May 27 hundreds of Upton residents attended Upton’s Memorial Day events to honor and remember those who served and died defending America’s freedom.
The day began with Veterans performing cemetery services at Lakeview Cemetery, Maplewood Cemetery and the Old Burial Grounds. After the cemetery services the Veteran’s lead the annual parade. The parade ended at Upton’s Town Common where a Memorial Day Service was opened by Officer of the Ceremony John Robertson. Prior to the Roll Calls of the Deceased Nipmuc High School Senior Chelsea Daniels sang God Bless America, Girls Scout Ann Overholt read In Flanders Field and the Nipmuc Regional High School Band performed. The AL Roll Call of Deceased was read by John Robertson and the VFW Roll Call of the Deceased by Robert Fleming. The ceremony was closed with the National Anthem performed by the Nipmuc Regional HS Band.
Upton was honored to have 2 veterans attend who this years service was their 66th and 67th Memorial Day ceremony as Veterans of their branch of the military.
If you were wondering why the fire truck left the parade, they needed to assist on a medical emergency. Someone had fallen off of a horse on Triphammer Road and they needed the man power to help carry out of the woods.
It was a beautiful Memorial Day, enjoy the photos.
