Have an old bike? Bicycle Recycle Event June 15 – Upton

IMG_5318[1]A Bicycle Recycling Day will be held on Saturday, June 15 from 9 a.m. to noon at the United Parish Church, 1 Church St., Upton.

Any bicycle is a good bicycle: bicycles accepted include Racing, Mountain, Bmx, Crusier, kids, old/new, Mopeds or gas powered bicycles.

The majority of the adult bikes will go to Ghana to be used for transportation and some bikes will go to The Baptist Church in Worcester to be given to kids who want them.  The aim is to reuse and keep bikes from being destroyed.

Dennis Wood is organizing the event, it’s not his first, he has been doing these types of events for about a year and they have been successful.  Dennis got the idea when he attended a Bike for Bombs event and thought, “Wow that looks cool, I would like to do that myself.”  Dennis has a contact from Ghana who picks up the bikes and ships them. Dennis also said, “If someone attends the event who is need of a bike he will give a bike to the person in need.”

Dennis will also collect sewing machines at the event which will also be sent to Ghana. “Africa is DC, I don’t know how they convert them over, but they do.”
