Saturday was a beautiful day of the PMC Upton Kids Ride. Approximately 125 children, ages 2 to 15, participated in the fundraising event to support adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. “The kids bike their hearts out for the cause.” Sgt Lisa Vass said in an email. The kids raised $15,000 this year.
It was a big day for Bella, age 5, she biked the Tikes and Trikes course in past years and this year she was moving up to the big course, she was thrilled. Dillon, age 6, and Curtus, age 5, were hanging around in a tree just before the race. Their Moms said, “They are riding for the cause and for fun. They are supporting their friend who is surviving.” Clara, age 9, and Riley, age 6, were riding for their Grandma who had cancer last year and is “good now.”
The PMC Upton Kids Ride was started by PMC veterans Chief Thomas Stockwell and Sgt. Lisa Vass who have both lost family to cancer. Stockwell’s grandson, Owen, who is too young to ride in the PMC, was their inspiration to get involved with the PMC Kids Rides program.
