This past April Robyn Nasuti was looking for creative solutions for fundraising for a 16 year old Girl Scout who was trying to raise funds to attend a trip overseas. Hayley was chosen as 1 of 15 Girl Scouts from around the US to participate in “Destination to London, England on New Year’s Eve,” a trip of lifetime.
Hayley is being raised by her grandparents who have a limited income and couldn’t afford to send her on the $3,600 trip. Hayley’s grandparents stepped in to raise Hayley after she lost her dad on Christmas Eve at the age of 5. Her mother subsequently had a nervous breakdown and has been institutionalized ever since.
Robyn was flooded with fundraising ideas when she asked the Upton Moms Yahoo Group how to raise funds for an individual and told Hayley’s story. Robyn ended up creating a Give Forward website where people could make donations. Hayley has raised enough funds to go on her trip thanks to our very giving community, Hayley’s extended family, and scholarships
Robyn wrote in an email, “I am pleased to report she has been awarded another scholarship – for a total of $1700 in scholarships. The extremely generous Upton Mom’s donated more than $1,200 and her extended family donated another $850 through the Give Forward website and Facebook. Social media is amazing! She has reached her goal and will be attending London on New Year’s Eve! She is working at a daycare center this summer to pay for airfare and spending money. I can’t thank you all enough for helping send this lovely young lady to Europe!”
