West Nile Virus Found in Shrewsbury Mosquito

mosquitoWest Nile Virus has been found in a Shrewsbury Mosquito.  Samples were taken on August 9 which resulted in the positive find. To date Shrewsbury is the only town in Worcester Country to have the virus show up in a sampling.

No human cases of West Nile Virus or EEE have been reported to date this year. EEE has been found in two horses located in Belchertown in the last month.

Health officials  urge residents to use caution when participating in outdoor activities from dusk to dawn.

Below is a video of Sam Telford, III’s Lecture at Tufts on July 16. Sam Telford is an infectious disease expert and professor at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University and spoke about mosquito-borne illness.  Upton Daily readers who attended found his lecture to be very informative.
