Upton Conservation Commission to add associate member

The Upton Conservation Commission will be adding associate member(s) to their commission.

On August 20 the Commission presented adding an associate member before the Upton Selectmen. After some discussion the selectmen determined adding associate members to the Conservation Commission did not require their approval.

An associate or junior member has no voting rights and may be added to the commission at their discretion. If the committee were to request a member with voting rights such as an alternate or additional member the request would require approval at a town meeting. If approved the request for such a member would need a special act by the state legislature. Under MA law a conservation committee can have only 7 members.

The committee was excited to add associate members. In addition to what an associate would contribute to the committee efforts, they expressed an associate member would be ready and prepared to take over the responsibilites of a full members seat should it become available.

The Conservation Committee was represented by Mike Penko, Chris Scott and Marcella Stasa at the August 20 selectmen meeting.
