Upton Police Officer Michael Lupachini was kind enough to follow up with Upton Daily regarding yesterday’s post “Is there a suckers list.”
Although there are legitimate organizations who use telemarketers to raise funds for police departments, Upton does not see any of that money. The best way to support the Upton Police Department is to donate directly to the department.
Officer Lupachini explained many years ago the Upton Police Department outsourced their efforts to raise funds by using a telemarketing type company. The outcome wasn’t positive and they eventually stopped outsourcing for several reasons. Some of the reasons included the small percentage they received back, hard selling tactics by the representatives, and unsavory individuals who were sent to collect the monies.
When the Upton Police Union runs fundraising it is done through the mail, no pressure. Also, individuals do not have to wait for a fundraising drive to make a donation to the department.
