On August 22, 2013 shortly after midnight a female was stopped in Maynard by a male impersonating a police officer. The female noticed she was being followed for several miles. While she was approaching the town line the vehicle following the female activated a blue flashing light. The female pulled over thinking it was a police officer. The male approached her and ordered her to exit the vehicle. The female was suspicious, drove away and immediately called the police.
Both Maynard and the neighboring town of Stow responded to the area and were unable to locate the suspect. This investigation is continuing.
Upton Police Chief Bradley advised the Upton Police Department does use unmarked vehicles. If you are pulled over by an unmarked vehicle and are not certain the person is a police officer, do not get out of the car. Instead call 911 and speak with the police dispatcher to confirm the person is a police officer. All Massachusetts police officers should carry official identification as seen below and should present it upon request.
