This year Rosh HaShanah will start on Thursday, the 5th of September and will continue for 2 days until Friday, the 6th of September. Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year and is the first of the High Holy Days or Yamim Nora’im (“Days of Awe”).
Miscoe Hill Middle School is holding the annual parent teacher open house tonight which is also the first night of Rosh HaShanah. Parents who observe the holy day will need to choose between education and religion. This is not unusual in today’s society as more and more frequently activities are scheduled during church and family time.
Miscoe Hill will most likely make accommodations for parents who decide to observe the holy day and miss the open house but the question is should the district have scheduled open house on the Jewish Holiday.
