Starting September 30th students in the Mendon Upton Regional School district will be eating locally grown fruits and veggies served with their school lunch. Through the Farm to School program the school will connect with local farms with the objective of serving healthy meals to students.
Apples, pears, tomatoes, kale, carrots and winter square are just some of the fruits and vegetables which will be offered through the program. The fresh produce will be offered twice a month to students as part of their purchased school lunch.
The district plans on serving the veggies in a way which will appeal to most students like kale chips and carrot fries. The program will be offered throughout the district grades K-12.
