It’s been one of those days. I have ton of stuff I need to get done, several things I did yesterday which are falling apart, and I spent the morning jumping through hoops. Thanks to the Mendon Upton Moms and Dads too facebook group I was spared a second trip to North Attleboro in the pouring rain.
We are taking care of a home which is in probate due to a death in the family. At the moment we are waiting on a letter from the state authorizing us to do stuff, like have the mail forwarded, sell the home, etc. We have been waiting for the letter from the state since August.
Due to a mishap with the mail we were not receiving electric bills for the home we are taking care of and the company shut the power off to the home. Wednesday I called the electric company to straighten the matter out, the account was paid up to date, and the bills would now be forwarded to my home. Unfortunately power could only be reinstated with a trip to their office. So yesterday I went to N. Attleboro, visited the electric company, presented the death certificate, and had the billing changed to me. They said I was all set, power would be back on by the end of the afternoon.
All set must mean something else to the electric company. The power was not turned back on. UUGH!
This morning I called to find out why the power was not back on. I was told “you need to visit our office to have the power turned on.” My response, ” What? I was just there yesterday, I already did that.” The person then explained there was a misunderstanding. Apparently the woman who worked with me yesterday didn’t understand that I was not the home owner. Really? So what is there not to understand when a person says, “I’m here because a family member died and the power to their home has been shut off. Here is a copy of the death certificate. I’m here to turn the power back on. Going forward the bills need to be sent to Upton.” Is there any room for misinterpretation or misunderstanding? Any? OMG!
She insisted I needed to go back down to the office and file an application. WTH? I pushed back…. a lot. Eventually the woman agreed to allow me to fax a copy of the application but it would need to be stamped by a notary. Phew!
Now the dilemma, where was I going to find a notary? The town hall is closed on Fridays. I needed to get the application faxed back by 1 p.m. today to restore service today. I didn’t even know where I could fax something from. I posted these questions to the Mendon Upton Moms and Dads too facebook group. Within seconds a mom from Upton replied ” I am a notary…I will be home until 12:00.” Then a Mendon mom said I could fax it from her home and another mom said I could fax from the Upton Libary.
So by noon I had all my ducks in a row and ready to go thanks to the kindness of moms from Upton and Mendon. BUT I had one more stop to make. It’s Friday, the town hall may be closed but it’s chowder day at the Bean. Mmmm their chowder is yummy. I got myself a bowl and a warm chocolate chip cookie. Sometimes you just need the Bean!
