A Grafton and Upton Railroad freight train decorated with lights and holiday decorations will kick off the first annual Grafton and Upton Holiday Train from Hopedale to the North Grafton Yard. The train will consist of a decorated locomotives, four empty materials transport cars, and a caboose.
The Holiday Train will leave the Hopedale Yard located between Hopedale Street and Fitzgerald Drive at 5:30 p.m. The Holiday Train is anticipated to arrive in the West Upton area near Maple Avenue at 6:30 p.m.. Continuing down the line the train will be arriving in Grafton Center near Cumberland Farms around 7:30, and will be arriving at it’s final destination, the North Grafton Yard, at Westboro Road at 8 p.m.
The Grafton and Upton Railroad in the spirit of the holidays wants to create an annual holiday tradition that reminds people of the history of this line, first created in the 1870s to get goods from the Draper Mill in Hopedale to market.
Owner of the G&U RR Jon Delli Priscoli (who also owns famed Edaville Railroad) has refurbished the short line freight railroad. Earlier this year, CSX named the G&U as one of the fasted growing short line railroads in the country.
