The Upton Open Space Committee is holding monthly hikes in 2014 to explore Stefan’s Farm. The first hike is Sunday January 12 at 1 pm. For those interested the group will meet at the Community Garden which is located near the power lines on Mechanic Street in Upton.
Stefan’s Farm is a 126 acre town owned property bordered by Mechanic and Orchard Streets. The property includes a variety of habitats including wooded uplands and wetlands, meadows, hedgerows, streams, and vernal pools. Deer, fisher, beaver, wild turkey, and numerous songbirds and butterflies have been observed on the property.
Some of the historic features of the property include stone walls, a stone dam, and a large cut boulder.
