Mendon Upton Regional School District announced there will be no school tomorrow, Wednesday, 1/22 due to the snow and expected bitter cold temps. After consulting with local officials, the Mendon Upton District Superintendent Joseph Maruszczak said, “I am concerned how our roads will be (particularly the secondary roads) throughout the AM. Stay warm and safe!”
No School for Mendon Upton Regional School District Wed 1/22
There is absolutely no reason for school to be cancelled here today. This business of deciding the evening prior has to stop. The superintendent needs to wake up at 5:30 AM and call the DPW’s and police stations in both towns for an update and then make his decision prior to 6 AM. In this day of near instantaneous knowledge of a cancellation or delay, cancelling 8-10 hours prior to buses needing to start rolling is uncalled for. The is New England, the northeast. It snows here, every year without fail. The DPW’s need to get their crews out early for the roads to be ready for morning traffic before commute times, unless of course a storm is still underway, in which case they should be working if safety conditions permit to make cleanup managable when the storm stops.
The roads were perfectly clear when I left my home at 6:30AM this morning, and I am not on a main or secondary road. This cancelling so far in advance in anticipation of forecasted weather is not acceptable.
