Upton Troop 132 takes 2nd place at the 2014 Klondike Derby

On February 1st Upton Boy Scout Troop 132 placed 2nd overall in the 2014 Annual Klondike Derby at the Treasure Valley Scout Reservation, in Rutland, Mass.

The Klondike Derby is a race on sleds with the objective of getting to as many stations as you can. At each station scouts are tested on their scoutcraft skills and leadership abilities, earning points towards a total score.

At this years event there were 30 units total consisting of 15 units  from the Quinsigamond District and 15 units from the Mill Town District and  a total of 51 Patrols. The event consisted of 22 stations where each Troop was graded on team work, effectiveness, and in some cases time.

Patrol Leader Patrick Ober was the Senior Patrol leader for this event. Ober organized everything from meal planning to attendance. From the crack of dawn to almost 3 pm Troop 132 worked to get as many stations and get as many points as they could.

David Ferreira wrote, “Though we didn’t come in first place, the lessons learned that day will last a life time.”
