Life long Upton resident Scott Henderson is running the 2014 Boston Marathon for the Angel Fund.
The Angel Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting ALS investigations at the Cecil B. Day Laboratory for Neuromuscular Research. Located at the UMASS Medical Center in Worcester the Cecil B. Laboratory is internationally recognized for its ground-breaking work in the fight against this devastating illness.
Scott stumbled upon this cause last year. After running in the Sharon Timlin 5k in Hopkinton he was asked to join the Angel Fund team for the 2013 Boston Marathon. “They needed to fill some spots and needed runners who could run in the marathon,” Scott said. He decided to join their cause.
Last year was the first time Scott ran the Boston Marathon. His team finished about 15 minutes before the first bomb. His thoughts on running in this years marathon are, “It’s important that it continues as a tradition and to remember what happened, but not to let it deter us.”
Scott said his training has been going well. He only trains outside, no treadmill. Scott said, “All cold weather. All outside rain or shine. You need to dress for the elements and sometimes you need micro spikes.” Scott is hoping it’s not 70 degrees on marathon day because he has been training in the cold weather.
Scott and his wife Amy have two daughters, Clementine and Quinn. Clementine’s snowman Tiny Tom Brady is in the running for the Upton Daily’s snowman contest.
