Its The Two Bite Club vs Goodnight Moon Upton Daily Throwdown

just for fun..

goodnight moonHmmm…. it’s going to be a tough battle. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is encouraging Grandparents to help their grandchildren eat healthy. In the USDA blog yesterday they asked grandparents to reward their grandchildren with hugs not treats and to set an example by making healthy food choices. They also asked grandparents to read  ‘The Two Bite Club’a book put out by the USDA, with their grandchildren at bedtime. Grandparents want to make the right choice but are reluctant to give up reading ‘Goodnight Moon’ to their grandchildren.

Today Grandparents everywhere are participating in the  The Two Bite Club vs Goodnight Moon Upton Daily Throwdown to determine which is the better bedtime story.

Grandparents will select the Throwdown winner by answering a series of  questions. Stories will gain a point for each time they are picked.  Each question is followed by a sampling from the stories.  May the best story win.

Do your grandchildren prefer food groups or red balloons?

“Wash your hands. I have a special game planned for our lunch today. We will find foods in our kitchen from every food group”  OR  “In the great green room there was a telephone and a red balloon and a picture of a cow jumping over the moon”

Which makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside being a member of the Two Bite Club or kittens and mittens?

“Each color on the plate in the picture is a different food group. My teacher told me that if we eat two bites from each food group we can be members of the Two Bite Club!” OR  “And there were three little bears sitting on chairs, and two little kittens and a pair of mittens

How does the orange food group compare to a comb and a brush and a bowl full of mush?

The first food group is colored orange, and it’s the Grains Group—see?” said Will. “There are bread, crackers, rice, and noodles.” “That’s right,” said Mother. “Can you find something from the Grains Group ?” OR  “And a little toy house and a young mouse. And a comb and a brush and a bowl full of mush. And a quiet old lady whispering hush”

Carrots are exciting but can they compare to saying goodnight to the stars and the air?

“Then Mother said, “I bought some carrots,  lettuce, and corn at the grocery store. They are all vegetables. Let’s see if you can find something else from the Vegetable Group.” It’s the green part of MyPlate” OR  “Goodnight bears, goodnight chairs….. Goodnight stars. Goodnight air. Goodnight noises everywhere.””

….and the  Upton Daily Throwdown winner is  .. Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown, illustrated by Clement Hurd. Congratulations!
