Community to pause in remembrance one-year anniversary of Boston Marathon tragedy

funeral candleThe community is invited to assemble at Draper Park in Milford on Tuesday, April 15, between 2:30 and 3:30 pm for a ceremony to mark the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon Bombings.  The program will consist of a moment of silence for the victims of the Marathon tragedy including the ringing of church bells at 2:49 pm, the time when the first bomb exploded.

Dr. Jeffrey Hopkins, Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Milford Regional Medical Center will offer remarks about the 2013 Boston Marathon during which he provided medical direction at the starting line.

Sen. Richard T. Moore and Rep. John V. Fernandes will also reflect on the impact of the Boston Marathon Bombings on the Milford-area and entire Commonwealth.

Local faith community leaders will lead the gathering in prayer and reflection. Michael Shain, President and Founder of “Thanks to Yanks,” a local organization dedicated to paying tribute to the heroes and victims of 9/11, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

Draper Memorial Park is located on Route 16 in Milford across from the Milford Police Station.

The ceremony is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend. Past and present Boston Marathon runners are especially encouraged to attend. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Milford Congregational Church located at 4 Congress St. in Milford.
