Mendon Upton Regional School District’s Pre K-12 Music Coordinator Michael Morel is running the 2014 Boston Marathon for the first time this year. Mr. Morel is running raising funds for the Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) a non-profit 501 (c)(3) that provides wonderful enrichment opportunities for the visual and performing arts.
“I am so excited to have the opportunity to run in my first marathon, this year’s Boston Marathon. Like many of us after last year’s tragedy, I felt helpless, but as the months passed, I resolved to run and serve as a tribute to the victims and to a great city,” said Morel.
When asked how his training was going Mr. Morel said, “Training has been going very well. I did my 20 mile run on Saturday (March 29) at the Eastern States 20 Mile Race in NH. I finished in 3:08 minutes, still on track for just under a 4 hour marathon. The conditions were not great for the run with the wind and cold along coast on Route 1A in NH, but I still felt great. I am enjoying the taper portion of training now, with some shorter runs in the next few weeks.”
Mr. Morel has passed the half way mark of his fundraising goal of $4000 and he hopes you consider making a tax-deductible donation to the HCA to support the organization and his run. “Absolutely anything that you can do will be going to a good use supporting the arts locally,” said Morel.
