Janet Ellen Goodfriend of Upton, MA passed away Saturday April 19th after a courageous battle with cancer.
Janet is the daughter of Jo and Michael A. Goodfriend, MD currently of Sutton MA. Born in Rochester NY in 1967 the family then moved to Fort Devens MA before settling in Ithaca NY. She attended Ithaca schools before graduating from New Hampton School (’85) in NH. She earned her B.A. in English with a teacher’s certification from Fredonia’s State University of New York (’89) and then a Master’s degree in Literacy and Language Arts from Framingham State University in MA. After teaching in Topsfield and Franklin MA, she devoted her efforts to raising a family and publishing three novels (www.janetgoodfriend.com).
In additional to her parents, she is survived by Jeff Pollak, her husband of almost 19 years; her children Ethan and Naomi Pollak; her brother Steve and sister-in-law Dina Goodfriend (Newton MA); and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends who will miss her dearly.
Family and friends are invited to join us in remembering Janet during shiva, which will be held at the family’s house at 6 Meadow Drive, Upton MA 01568 on Sunday April 20th from 3-5pm and Monday from 6-8pm. A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
