NEW LONDON, Conn.–Connecticut College senior Drew Majkut of Upton, Mass. has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 2 Men’s Cross Country/Track & Field First Team in Division III as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A talented runner and decorated scholar, Majkut’s contributions in the athletic arena and in the classroom exemplify what the NESCAC student-athlete experience is all about.
A leader and co-captain for the 2013 cross-country team, Majkut was a key contributor and scorer for a 2012 squad that placed eighth at the New England Division III Championship. In that same season, Majkut was the team’s fourth finisher at the NESCAC Championship and was the Camels’ third harrier to cross the finish line at the ECAC Championship.
In the classroom carrying a major in International Relations, Majkut has been recognized as a Winthrop Scholar, the College’s highest academic honor. Majkut has been honored as a Phi Beta Kappa scholar and is also a member of the Political Science National Honor Society Pi Sigma Alpha. Majkut has been recognized for Outstanding Achievement in International Relations the past two years.
During commencement weekend, Majkut was recognized with the Brown/Brooks Award by the athletic program.
Established by the Class of 1984, the Award is given to the outstanding male and female student-athletes who best represent the graduating class in scholarship, leadership and sportsmanship. The award is named after its first recipients, Tammy Brown ’84 and Jim Brooks ’84.
By landing on the first team in the district Majkut has advanced to the national ballot.
The 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Team for Cross Country/Track & Field in Division III will be announced in the last week of June.
