Council on Aging – Van Driver – Part-Time
The Town of Upton seeks to fill the part-time position (8 hours/week) of Council on Aging Van Driver.
Statement of Duties: The Van Driver is responsible to perform routine work in the vehicle transport of elderly and disabled citizens to and from appointed destinations. Transports elderly and disabled citizens to and from various destinations, such as the grocery store for shopping, Council on Aging for activities, medical offices for appointments, Post Office, etc.; assists passengers in getting in and out of vehicles by opening doors and providing physical assistance to those who request or need it; carry groceries, assist with walkers, operates wheelchair lift; ensures that passengers safely enter their dwellings. Driver makes safety checks on the van prior to daily operations, documents problems, records mileage, reports repairs or issues to the COA Director. Maintains fuel levels, communicates with office staff regarding rides, cancellations or delays. Performs related duties as the situation dictates.
Minimum Qualifications: Requires a High School Diploma or G.E.D. and some experience operating a passenger van or in light truck delivery service preferred; xperience in working with elderly persons desirable; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s license and Certification in CPR and First Aid are required. Work Schedule: The position requires 8 hours/week 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Fridays). Salary: $12.35 – $14.21/hour.
