What to do around Upton this weekend

kiwanisFriday June 27th – Sippin and Kickin at Imperial Ballroom – Guests will enjoy a great buffet of country themed dishes including Jack Daniels barbecue chicken, mesquite steak tips, smoky mac & cheese, roasted corn salad, roasted potatoes, and pie for dessert.  Doors open at PM and the buffet will be served from 7-8.   Houston and the Band will take the stage from 8-11.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday the Vintage Motorsports Festival Celebrates the Grand Re-Opening of the Historic Road Course at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. The Park is about 35 minutes from Upton.  Over 220 vintage sports cars, spanning across nearly a century, will converge on Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park this weekend for the inaugural Vintage Motorsports Festival.  Two of the premier vintage clubs in the Northeast, the Vintage Racer Group (VRG) and Vintage Sports Car Club of America (VSCCA) will co-sanction this extraordinary event.  The weekend will celebrate the grand re-opening of the historic road course at Thompson that closed down in the mid-1970’s and will feature several of the cars that raced at Thompson in the middle of last century.  There will also be a “Back in the Day” Car show and Fan Walk on Sunday morning that will invite spectators to partake in some of Thompson’s history.

Friday June 27 – Uxbridge celebrates the 4th of July – 4 to 9 p.m. McCloskey School Field – Admission $1. Entertainment from Dance Works Academy, “Just for Fun and “Angela West and Showdown.” There will be a 40-foot obstacle course and face-painting available, and vendors will sell food and beverages.

Great American Camp Out Saturday July 28 – Unplug and head outside. That is the idea behind National Wildlife Federation’s widely popular national family event, Great American Backyard Campout. In conjunction with Great Outdoors Month, the annual event encourages people of all ages to camp in their backyards, neighborhoods, parks and campgrounds, as a way to reconnect with nature. This year’s Great American Backyard Campout is Saturday, June 28, 2014.
