Nipmuc Rod and Gun Firearm Training Classes Available

nipmucrodandgunNipmuc Rod and Gun is pleased to announce they will be offering a series of Fire Arm Safety Classes which will be open to the general public. Registration is required to reserve your spot. Safety First Seminar,   NRA Home Firearm Safety Course (FID), and the NRA Basic Pistol Course will be offered. Details below.

 
July 24th –Safety First Seminar   
Seminar Description
This 2 hour seminar is offered as a public service to our members and the general public.   The goal of the seminar is to introduce concepts of basic firearms safety to those who have limited or no firearms experience.   It may also serve as a refresher for someone who has been away from the sport for some time.  It is a perfect introduction for family members of current firearms owners or new residents of Massachusetts.
Lessons:
  • Basic Rules for Safe Gun Handling
  • Practical Exercises in Safe Gun Handling
  • Safe Storage and Transport of Firearms and Ammunition
  • An overview of Massachusetts Law regarding firearms ownership.
There are no prerequisites for taking this course and the material can be understood by mature people of all ages.  It should be noted that this is not a NRA course nor does it meet the statutory requirements for a LTC or FID.

There is no cost for the course.

Course Description
The course is approximately 5 total hours in duration and is conducted entirely in a classroom.   The course goal is “to teach the basic knowledge and skills and to explain the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of guns in the home.”
 
Lessons:
  • Rules for Safe Gun Handling
  • Identifying and Unloading Different Firearms
  • Practical Exercises in Safe Gun Handling
  • Types of Ammunition; Cleaning and Storage of Firearm
  • An overview of Massachusetts Law regarding firearms ownership, use, storage and transport.
There are no prerequisites for taking this course and the material can be understood by mature people of all ages.  It should be noted that youths between the ages of 15-18 years require parental permission to apply for a FID card in the State of Massachusetts.  No one under the age of 15 may apply for a FID card.
Those who successfully pass the course will receive a NRA Home Firearm Safety Course Certificate as well as a Massachusetts Basic Firearms Certificate which is needed to meet the statutory requirements for a Massachusetts Firearms ID card (FID).
Cost
The cost for the course is $50 for Nipmuc Rod and Gun Club members and $75 for non-members.  The fee covers all materials including NRA Student Packs.   A deposit of $25 will be needed at least 2 week prior to the class to ensure ample materials and space are available.   The balance is due on the first day of the course.  Cash or check is accepted.

September 7th – NRA Basic Pistol Course  
 
Course Description
This class will be over 2 days on 9/7 and 9/14. The NRA Basic Pistol Course is approximately 8 total hours in duration and includes classroom and practical range or “live fire” time.  It is designed to teach safety and fundamentals to the new or novice shooter.  The course is conducted over two separate days broken out as follows:  


Those who successfully pass the course will receive a NRA Basic Pistol Certificate as well as a Massachusetts Basic Firearms Certificate which is needed to meet the statutory requirements for a Massachusetts License to Carry (LTC) or a Firearms ID card (FID).
Cost
The cost for the course is $90 for Nipmuc Rod and Gun Club members and $125 for non-members.  The fee covers all materials including NRA Student Packs, ammunition, hearing and eye protection.   A deposit of $25 will be needed at least 2 week prior to the class so that course materials can be purchased for you.   The balance is due on the first day of the course.  Cash or check is accepted.
