Sign held by Market Basket Employee protesting outside of the Bellingham Location
The Lowell Sun is reporting all part-time Market Basket employees will be laid off effective Sunday.
Last week the company demanded all workers return and held a job fair.
Area supermarkets have been swamped as customers have either refused to shop at Market Baskets in support of the protesting employees or have been forced to shop elsewhere due to empty shelves.
A visit to the Bellingham location last week found the produce, bakery, and fish/meat department shelves bare. There were some dairy products and the dry product shelves were starting to empty out. There were no customers in the store during the visit.
One Upton resident has calculated shopping at another location will cost him $1,650 more dollars a year and hoped that Market Basket and their employees were able to settle their issues quickly.
