State Police to crack down on drunk and distracted drivers

uptondaily1pngOn Thursday August 28 the Massachusetts State Police, the Highway Safety Division of the state Executive Office of Public Safety and Security and the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration joined forces at the Andover Barracks to discuss Labor Day traffic safety measures, including increased patrols and sobriety checkpoints.

Beginning August 13, 2014 running through Labor Day, September 1, 2014 a statewide effort places extra law enforcement patrols on the Commonwealth’s streets and highways targeting impaired drivers coupled with the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” public information campaign.  The final wave of the “Texting Ban Demonstration Project” which targets texting drivers continues September 13, 2014 through October 18, 2014.  Both efforts are funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
