The Milford Police Department has issued a Scam Alert to local residents regarding a caller with a “911” number.
According to the Milford PD there have been reports by residents of a call from a “911” number where the caller states there is an outstanding arrest warrant and they should contact a particular detective at 1-919-714-0101. The scammers are demanding residents pay money to avoid arrest by a Federal Agent.
The Milford Police advised Law Enforcement and government agencies do not resolve legal matters over the phone and to not give out their credit card numbers. “No one will come to arrest you. This is a long running scam that has netted the scammers untold amounts of money from victims,” the Milford Police Department wrote on their Facebook page.
According to the Milford Police Department the scam originates from India. “Simply hang up and if necessary report it to authorities,” wrote the Milford Police Department.
