Submitted by the Committee to Elect Marty Green
Marty Green, candidate for State Representative in the 9th Worcester District (Grafton, Northbridge, and Upton) asks why State Representative candidate Dave Muradian says that he supports local businesses, but is accepting support from big money political action committees (PACS) that use out-of-state companies to promote his campaign. “According to filings with the Office of Campaign & Political Finance, Jobs First, ie PAC, used a Utah company for production of a mailer recently sent to residents in the 9th Worcester District.” Alternatively Mr. Green has pledged to continue his 20 years of working with and supporting local businesses in promoting his campaign.
Unfortunately, Mr. Muradian’s actions are another example of a political candidate saying one thing and doing another. Marty Green is proud to be a small business person and former executive director of the Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce who will always support our local businesses. Mr. Green is challenging Mr. Muradian to stop accepting support from big money PAC’s that don’t support local businesses.
As I drive around Grafton, Northbridge and Upton I see a lot of Marty Green Property signs up in front of commercial buildings. It makes me wonder why there is so much vacancy. Massachusetts is one of the most politically liberal and Democratic controlled states in America.
Currently, Democrats control 82% of the Massachusetts legislature (129 seats); Republicans have 17% (28 seats). Now juxtapose that to the number of local business that have either gone out of business or stopped doing business in Grafton, Upton & Northbridge. I don’t think it is a coincidence. The regulatory and tax environment in Massachusetts is a nightmare for businesses trying to operate their businesses throughout the Commonwealth.
His website boasts, “Marty Green is committed to working with businesses in the Blackstone Valley to reduce the cost of doing business, and to expand economic growth. The best part is – he has the real life experience to do it.”
Does he?
Everyday it seems that a new Marty Green Property sign spring up in front of a newly vacant commercial property in the towns he is running to represent. Which again leads me to ask why? One would think if he knew how to spur economic growth he would start with his own business. Logic dictates that having an over-abundance of vacant properties in the real estate leasing business is not good a good thing.
How can you expect Marty to increase economic development in our towns when it seems apparent that he can’t in his own business? Given the fact that Democrats overwhelmingly control the Massachusetts legislature, how would electing Marty Green, an extremely progressive liberal, change anything on Beacon Hill? The reality is, it can not.
Marty Green’s Facebook Page has a post dared Sept 18, 2014 written by a gentleman by the name of Keith Menard that states, “When I spoke to Marty about the gas tax, he didn’t necessarily say he agreed with me that tax increases shouldn’t be automatic and the legislature should have to answer for it each time.”
Marty’s response: “I now find myself struggling with the economic impact on transportation businesses, with the revenue that will be generated by the gas tax for badly needed road and bridge projects that will benefit all residents and businesses.”
I would like to remind my fellow residents of Grafton and Marty Green that Grafton just passed a huge $3.5 million dollar tax increase back in June. The increase included $1.5 million for the roads. I am suprised Marty forgot about that; or maybe he is just hoping you do.
Now to be fair, Marty did say he wouldn’t have voted for the tax, but then went on to say he now finds himself struggling with the economic impact of not voting for the gas tax. He can’t have it both ways. The residents of the towns would share the blunt of the burden. I am getting to the point of being over taxed. I guess thats why they call it Taxachusetts!
Marty Green and supporterss want you to know that Marty served as the Economic Development Director of the Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce for over 10 years. Why hasn’t the Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce endorsed him?
If Marty was as effective as he said he was I would think this would have been the first organization to throw support behind him. As far as I can tell there is no such endorsement on his website nor Facebook page.
He might be a nice guy and a great dad, but that doesn’t make him qualified to represent us at the state house.
At the end of the day adding another Democrat to the roster on Beacon Hill is not what we need. If you are looking for an independant voice, Marty Green is not it.
If David Muradian is elected, we at least have a fighting chance to get fair representation. When it comes to important issues like raising the gas tax, Muradian is helping families and businesses. Marty would be helping politicians take our hard earned money and spend it frivolously.
