Upton VFW Judge Advocate Receives Volunteer Award

JoeWhitney

Judge Advocate, Joe Whitney, of the Upton VFW Post #5594 was presented with the Volunteer Award by the Veterans Services Organization for his dedication and commitment to Central Mass Veterans. Whitney volunteered his time this summer working with the Veterans Benefits Administration.

Over the past 25 years a claims processor from the Veterans Benefits Administration has been present at the Worcester Outpatient Clinic at least once a week for the purpose of assisting veterans and their families with comp and penn issues. Approximately one year ago the Veterans Benefits Administration representative announced his retirement and services in the Worcester Outpatient clinic have been limited and announced in June there would be no coverage during the summer months. Bill Ryan of Veterans Services said the future of the Veterans Benefits Administration looked bleak. When Joe Whitney heard about the situation he volunteered to take on the duties during the summer months
