Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society Awards Grant to Baypath Humane Society

kittyBaypath Humane Society of Hopkinton is honored to announce that it was awarded a $8,000 grant from the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society to help spay and neuter feral and stray cats across Hopkinton and the adjoining towns.

In just five years, one cat couple can produce more than 11,000 offspring. This overpopulation leads to millions of cats across the country being euthanized each year, since there simply are not enough adopters for the sheer number of kittens being born. The grant funds will help curb this overpopulation, enabling shelter staff to provide medical care and spay/neuter services to hundreds of stray cats.

Every year, Baypath Humane Society finds loving homes for more than 800 dogs and cats. “Spaying and neutering pets is one of the most important steps we can take to prevent animal overpopulation and cruelty to animals,” said Elizabeth Jefferis, Executive Director of Baypath Humane Society. “We’re so grateful to the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society. Their generosity and support will enable us to expand our spay/neuter program to help countless animals in need.”

The Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society’s (MRFRS) Trap-Neuter-Return program is funded by PetSmart Charities®. Their support has already helped provide spay/neuter services for 500 cats across the United States and Canada. MRFRS is also sharing its successful experience with Baypath Humane Society and other animal rescue organizations, helping them to care for more cats in need than ever before possible.
