In a pretty sweet mashup of Halloween and Veterans Day, students and staff at Blackstone Valley Tech recently participated for the first time in the “Treats 4 Our Troops” program.  

The decision to get involved with the charitable program, which collects excess Halloween candy and ships it to members of the armed services around the world, was made through a collaboration of the Milford Regional Medical Center’s School Based Health Center (SBHC) and its student advisory committee. Although independent of the school district, the SBHC operates within Valley Tech, provides medical services to students with parental permission, and plays an important role in the school’s promotion of health and wellness.

Multimedia Communications Junior Andrea Matellian, an Upton resident and member of the SBHC student advisory committee, was credited with spearheading the candy drive which raised a total of 155 pounds of leftover Halloween candy between November 3 and November 12.
