Melissa Wojnowski, a Nipmuc Regional High School Senior, was recognized for her academic and extracurricular achievements at the Worcester County Superintendents’ Association luncheon held earlier this month at the Hogan Center at The College of the Holy Cross. Mendon Upton District Superintendent Dr. Joseph Maruszczak and Nipmuc Regional High School Principal were in attendance along with fellow principals, superintendents, and top student achievers from throughout central Massachusetts.

Clements said, “Melissa is a phenomenal student who has earned a place as one of the top achievers in the Class of 2015. She has excelled in all of her academics at Nipmuc, including her participation in eight Advanced Placement courses.” Melissa is also the recipient of the Bausch and Lomb Science Award, the Columbia Book Award, and has been recognized as an AP Scholar.

Her accomplishments outside of the classroom also make her a top achiever. Melissa has received the Girl Scout Silver Award, participated in Camp Reach through WPI, and was part of a World Challenge Expedition to Ecuador. She has also summited the peak of Mt. Rumiñahui (15,489ft.) in Cotopaxi National Park in Ecuador.

Clements said the group of students that were honored were exceptional in many ways. “I was proud to have Melissa represent our school. She is a phenomenal student and individual who embodies so many qualities of scholarship in that she is curious, focused, and ambitious,” he said.

Melissa was proud to represent the district saying, “Receiving such an honor from the Worcester County Superintendents’ Association means a great deal to me; I deeply appreciate the recognition of my devotion to studies, and even more so appreciate the opportunity to represent the district.”

After graduation Melissa plans on pursuing biomedical engineering.
