Winter storm warning – snow and ice for Upton area

winterweather

Alerts: The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch from late tonight through 11 P.M. Saturday, for a threat of heavy wet snowfall.

by meteorologist Jeb Postle

Timeline:

Saturday: Mostly cloudy with snow developing between 4-7 A.M. Periods of light snow changing over to a rain-snow mix late morning. Rain-snow mix changing over to snow between 12-3 PM. Patchy fog possible. Snowfall amounts between 2-4”.  Ice accretion around a coating. High temperature around 34F. Light southwest winds changing to from the north later in the day.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy with periods of rain-snow mix changing over to all snow between 4-7 PM.  Snow will move out of the area between 8-10 PM. Snowfall amounts between 1-2” . Low temperature around 26F. Winds from the west at 5-10 mph.

Note: This still remains a tough forecast, as there are still a lot of variables in play. The biggest variable is how much cold air is place to support snow from this system. Also, the track is not set and stone yet. I will keep you updated.

Impacts: The snow that falls from this storm will be heavy and wet, leading to downed tree branches and causing isolated power outages. With regard to traveling, it looks like the worst travel time will be during the afternoon into early evening, as this is when the heaviest snow will fall and temperatures dropping to below freezing.
