Gov. Charlie Baker declares State of Emergency

uptondaily1pngAt a press conference held at Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) headquarters in Framingham on Monday January 26, Gov. Charlie Baker declared a state of emergency in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts effective immediately due to Winter Storm Juno.

A non-essential travel ban goes into effect at midnight.

“I can’t stress this part enough,” said Governor Baker. “Please stay off the roads.”

MBTA service will be suspended on Tuesday, when blizzard conditions are expected to be at their worst.

The governor said he has pre-positioned 500 members of the National Guard to be quickly deployed if needed.

Baker says power outages are anticipated and that it could take several days for all outages to be restored.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation says it is prepared with 4,000 road crews along with 250,000 tons of salt and 420,000 gallons of de-icing liquid.
