Friends of Upton State Forest presents ‘The History of Upton State Forest’

Friends of Upton State Forest (FUSF) will hold their annual meeting on Friday, January 30 at 7:00 PM at the Upton VFW, 15 Milford St, Upton. The snow date is February 6. For a notice of delay due to snow, please email news@friendsofuptonstateforest.org and put “annual meeting” in the subject line. There will be a brief business meeting with election of officers followed by a program.

Bill Taylor, president of FUSF will present The History of Upton State Forest. He will explore the social and political climate that led to the establishment of state parks in Massachusetts. Then he will discuss the various ways that land within Upton State Forest was used, and how it evolved into the park we know today. He will share historic and present day photos collected by the Friends.

The program is free to members. The public is welcome for a donation of $3.00. The Friends welcome new members. They will be offering a 10% discount to anyone signing up that night. The group recently received notice that the Upton State Forest–Civilian Conservation Corps Resources Historic District that includes the CCC Camp, and a corridor of CCC resources was listed on the National Register as of October 8, 2014.
