The water is back on at Miscoe Hill School with the completion of the new filtration system. Superintendent Dr. Joseph Maruszczak was pleased to report at this weeks school committee meeting that the system went on line on Monday, January 26.
In October the district learned that samples from the drinking water showed elevated manganese levels (.33 milligrams per liter of water) which slightly exceeded the MassDEP Guidance Levels. The district immediately turned off all water fountains, switched to bottled water/water coolers, and provided bottled water for food preparation.
Maruszczak said the new system is working well. ” As soon as it was online the DEP did a small sampling; the filtration system works really really well. As you recall we were right above the threshold and it shows our manganesen level is .005,” said Maruszczak.
The district did not have all invoices at the time of the meeting to state the actual system cost. Maruszczak noted the system would cost approximately $65,000.
