Representative Muradian encourages student participation in “The Frederick Douglass Prize Essay Contest”

BOSTON – Representative David K. Muradian, Jr. (R-Grafton) is pleased to encourage students in the 9th Worcester District to participate in the Pioneer Institute’s Second Annual Frederick Douglass Prize Essay Contest. The contest asks students to respond to key questions in history. The contest is open to high school students who live in the Commonwealth (including boarding school students) .

This year entrants will encourage students to explore the stories behind the Bay State’s many landmarks and museum exhibits and develop a clearly organized and well-researched essay drawing on primary and secondary sources that explains the greater historical impact and significance of the subject matter. The essays should be 6-8 double-spaced pages of size 12 Times New Roman font and will be graded on their arguments, historical research and the quality of the writing.

“I sincerely encourage high school students of Grafton, Northbridge, Nipmuc, Blackstone Valley Tech and Whitinsville Christian who have an interest in the history and government of this great Commonwealth to participate in this essay contest,” stated Rep. Muradian. “It is a wonderful chance for service-minded students to get recognition for their achievements as well as give back to their school and community.”

Submissions are due on Monday, April 6, 2015. All winning essays will be published and prize winners will have the opportunity to meet award-winning authors and distinguished speakers at the awards ceremony in Boston on May 4th, 2015.
