Images from Upton State Forest

Below are some beautiful wildlife images Ellen Arnold captured while visiting Upton State Forest near Rabbit Run Trail.

The first image is a deer grooming in the sun. Ellen said she hadn’t seen a deer in this area since the snow got so deep. The middle photo is of a red-bellied woodpecker and the last a male cardinal.

Thanks for sharing Ellen.

  1. It is a red-bellied, seems like it should be named red-headed but the actual red-headed species has a totally red head while the red-bellied has just the red cap.

  2. Nice pictures! Thanks Ellen and Jennifer for posting. One thing though — the identification of the woodpecker is wrong. It’s not a red-bellied; it’s a red headed woodpecker.
