Upton to be named ‘Purple Heart Community’ on April 7 – community invited to ceremony

purpleHeartBlackBackgroundAt their meeting of April 7th the Board of Selectmen will be accepting a designation from Mr. Leo Agnew of the Massachusetts Division of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, recognizing Upton as a “Purple Heart Community.”

The Board invites the community to be present for this designation to honor our veterans, specifically those who have been decorated for service in combat, although the naming recognizes all veterans .

Board Chairman Robert Fleming having been made aware of this honor brought it before his colleagues on the Board and an application was filed for this prestigious designation. In his invitation he stated, “It is only proper that our town recognize and show appreciation to the men and women in uniform who have served our country, specifically those decorated for service in combat. It’s another way to thank them for their sacrifice”

The ceremony will take place on the main town hall floor at 6pm, immediately following the opening of the Board’s regularly scheduled meeting.
